You know me, not much with the damseling.
Top 50 Favorite TV-characters | 2. Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar, Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Into each generation a Slayer is born, one girl in all the world, a Chosen One, one born with the strength and skill to hunt the vampires, to stop the spread of their evil blah, blah, blah…she’s heard it, okay? She’s a macho, macho man. Destructo girl, that’s her. She’s a slayer, ask her how. If the apocalypse comes, beep her. She’s sixteen years old, she doesn’t want to die. She may be dead, but she’s still pretty. They saved the world, she says they party. Whatever they’ve got coming next, she’s ready. Giver her time. She thought she’d try violence. No weapons, no friends, no hope, take all that away and what’s left? Her. She’s Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. And you are? Sometimes she craves a non-fat yogurt afterwards. Buffy Summers, reporting for sanity. If she was at full Slayer power, she’d be punning right about now. It’s from all of us, and it has written here, “Buffy Summers, Class Protector.” She doesn’t think she’s gonna to be taking any more orders. There’s something she’s supposed to be doing. Let her answer that with a head butt. Wish her monsters. Buffy want beer. She’ll make him die in ways he’s can’t even begin to imagine (that probably would’ve sounded more commanding if she wasn’t wearing her yummy sushi pajamas). She walks, she talks, she shops, she sneezes. She’s gonna be a fireman when the floods roll back. She’s got it covered from A to Z, from Axe to…Zee other axe. You have no idea how much she wishes she were an only child these days. She’s had a lot of people talking at her the last few days. Everyone just lining up to tell her how unimportant she is. And she’s finally figured out why. Power. She has it. They don’t. This bothers them. She’s had it with super-strong little women that aren’t her. She doesn’t need a guy right now. She needs her. She needs to get comfortable being alone with Buffy. We’re not supposed to move the body. She doesn’t know what to do, she’s scared. She can beat up demons until the cows come home. And then she can beat up the cows. Be brave. Live. For her. “Buffy Anne Summer, 1981-2001. Beloved sister, devoted friend. She saved the world…a lot.” She thinks she was in heaven, and now she’s not. She’s been going through the motions, walking through the part. Nothing seems to penetrate her heart. Hey, she’s died twice. Don’t give her songs, give her something to sing about. She just wants to feel. She’s not saying she’s doing back-flips about her life, but she didn’t…doesn’t want to die. That’s something, right? Her hat has a cow. She doesn’t want to protect you from the world, she wants to show it to you. She’s got so much strength, she’s giving it away. No guy is worth your life – not ever! She’s cookie dough, she’s not done baking. She’s not finished becoming whoever the hell it is she’s going to turn out to be. If she makes it throught this and the next thing and the next thing and the next thing and maybe one day she turns around and realises she’s ready. She’s cookies. She hates this. She hates being here. She hates that you have to be here. She hates that there’s evil and that she was chosen to fight it. She wishes a whole lot of the time that she hadn’t been. She knows a lot of you wish she hadn’t been, either. She’s going down into the Hellmouth and she’s finishing this once and for all. In every generation one Slayer is born because a bunch of men who died thousands of years ago made up that rule. She says we change that rule. She says her power should be our power. From now on, every girl in the world who might be a Slayer, will be a Slayer. Every girl who could have the power, will have the power. Can stand up, will stand up. Are you ready to be strong?
